Going to the length of finding land, acquiring financing, and finally pulling the trigger on a custom-built, new home requires an investment of time, money and energy that should result in a genuinely well-made home that is a pure joy to live in.

In this article, we’re looking at some of the most popular new home designs for 2017.

When you have the latitude to determine the style, size and footprint of your custom home, why not take full advantage and create something profound?  These designs aren’t specific to the Denver market; rather, they are reflective of national trends that we’re seeing here at Prime Design, and they’re inspirations for the homes that we design and build for our clients.

Trend #1: Kitchens with built-in bars

Imagine coming home after a long day at work and settling in with a nice, home-cooked meal and perhaps drinks with some friends at the kitchen bar. So far in 2017, incorporating bars and islands that double as dining space has become very popular. Integrating this sort of design into a floorplan does take some foresight, but with the right home builder working with you, it’s very doable.

Trend #2: Islands with contrasting colors

This trend defies common design paradigms by intentionally creating visual friction between the color of the kitchen cabinetry and the color of the island cabinetry. If you’re the sort of person who likes having a complex, progressively-themed kitchen, this idea might work great for you. Thankfully, because this trend is more cosmetic than anything else, it’s fairly easy to reverse or change if you don’t like it after all.

Trend #3: Loud colors and vintage designs for appliances

Given the opportunity to create a truly fun living space, some new home builders will incorporate design ideas that take into consideration the standard appliances found in most homes. This includes the largest of them, the refrigerator. Don’t think that the color of your fridge matters much? You’ll think again if you add one of these to your kitchen!

Trend #4: Marble surfacing

Ah yes, the elegant, warm look of real marble. Nothing quite compares to this luxurious surface, and when designing the interior of a new home, marble should never be left off the table (pun intended). The impressive visual effect that marble has cannot be overstated; however, the biggest concern most new homeowners have is if they can work marble into their budget. This is where it pays to have a quality builder like Prime Design Build in your corner, to obtain the best building materials without paying more than you absolutely have to.
